Last weekend, we decided it was finally time to have Theo's hair cut. We are not big into cutting our kids' hair, it turns out. Coco was three-and-a-half at her first haircut and Theo is almost two-and-a-half. If it hadn't been bothering him so much, we probably would have waited longer! I always thought I would have my girl's hair in a neat little bob and keep a boy's hair short and tidy, but I guess not! ;)
To quote my brother, Theo's hair was out of control. I know it sounds crazy, but until it was all wet and combed out, I didn't really see it! But it was out of control. It was definitely time.
I thought I would cry to see my darling baby boy's sweet wings and floppy bangs disappear, but much to my surprise, I was totally fine. My biggest fear had been taking him somewhere and having them completely shear his head. Luckily, we had my cousin cut his hair, and her approach was that we still wanted Theo to look like Theo, just able to see better. Perfect!
Coco jumped in a was so helpful in catching a few locks of Theo's hair to put in his baby book. She was so supportive and said calming things to him as he squirmed and decided he'd had enough.
And just like that, within a matter of minutes it was finished and Theo was transformed! Still Theo, but able to see. And we can see his gorgeous eyes better, too! What a success.
What is your approach to children's hair? Did you cry at your child's first haircut?
