The Appliance I Cannot Live Without

Last summer, my friend Kate and her boyfriend were visiting us in Portland.  As we washed all of the dishes by hand following a roast chicken dinner, she asked me a hypothetical question:  Would I rather have a dishwasher or a washer and dryer in my apartment?

At the time, I answered washer and dryer without hesitation.  Then I continued to wash the dishes in a basin of soapy water, rinse them and delicately balance them on the overcrowded dish rack.  Yes, I thought that a washer and dryer were more desirable.  That was only because I had yet to experience adult life with a dishwasher...

Dishwasher bliss!
Now that I have lived the last month with a dishwasher, I will never be able to go back to handwashing!

So, what is the appliance you can't live without?  Or perhaps, if you're an expat too, the one you're missing the most right now.

  1. I'm with you - ABSOLUTELY the dishwasher!! I bake and cook so much that it is indispensible!

  2. Agreed on the cooking and baking. Isn't it amazing the way it keeps the counter space available as you go?! :)

  3. Oh, I agree! I SO miss our dishwasher! You never realize the number the of dishes you use in a day, until you have to wash them all by hand.

  4. No dishwasher, Jess?! I guess you'll just have to hire one! ;)

  5. I would go with the washer and dryer over the dishwasher any day! (In fact, I would go with just the washer over the dishwasher.)

  6. Wow, that is some washer dedication right there! If I had to drive to a laundromat that would make the decision tougher. Schlepping to the basement is a-okay!

  7. Detail about some of the things is here and without these things i cannot live this is the main thing which we read here in the whole blog. If you think that you can live if you not find then you are thinking wrong and you never understand the value of these things.
