Montessori Monday: Ask me

I finished my AMI Montessori diploma ten years ago now. I taught for six years, and then, when Coco was born, I decided to be a stay-at-home-mom and focus on my blog. I started the Montessori Monday column and have written on a variety of topics. But now I want to hear from you! What are you curious about when it comes to Montessori? Please email me your questions at lindsey (at) swisslark (dot) com and I will choose a new question to answer each week.

And, in case you missed them, here are all of my Montessori posts:

I look forward to hearing from you and answering your Montessori questions!

  1. I would love to hear your thoughts specifically on very young toddlers (1-2 yrs). Most of what I've found (books/internet) seems to be targeted at 2 yrs and older. I've got a very active 1 year old who is practically running but is not anywhere near talking. She clear has a strong desire to be "big" but the language factor is limiting us (me?).

We do sensory things, shakers and play doh, and she will "cook" with her spoons and pots, and has a rag for wiping. I feel like she's getting board with that, though, but yet she doesn't have the verbal skills to do things like pick out colors, count things, etc and I can't find activities that bridge the gap.

Did you have this struggle? What did you do with your daughter before she was talking?

  2. Great! Children were tested for mental performance, academic abilities, and social and behavioral skills.
