The Romanoffs

Are you guys watching The Romanoffs? It has quickly become one of my top three favorite shows of all time. Each episode is its own stand alone short story and they're so emotionally compelling and thought-provoking that I find myself thinking about each one the entire next day. I can't say what it is they do exactly, but the writers and directors achieve such an incredible level of poignancy in capturing the messiness and complexity of the human experience. I am such a fan.

Last night, we watched the episode, "Expectation," pictured above and it was the best one yet. It had so many beautiful aspects, including a classic portrayal of New York City, and also John Slattery. Yes, I realize this has nothing to do with the show, but I love watching that man on screen. I am such a sucker for that Irish hairline and he is arguably one of the most handsome men alive. Unlike most of his roles, he is not arrogant or aloof in this one. He's vulnerable and real and a few lines of his really broke my heart.

Amanda Peet is completely awesome in her role in "Expectation." She is feisty, relatable, flawed and also vulnerable. I loved her acting and was completely entranced by her the entire way through. She finds a way to convey and embody two emotions at once again and again, and it's at once comforting because so much of life seems to be about feeling two things at once, and fascinating.

I don't want to give anything away, so I will stop there, but if you haven't seen The Romanoffs already, you must watch it. Weirdly, the show only gets 3 stars on Amazon Prime, which blows my mind because it is so wonderful! I would chalk it up to people having pitifully short attention spans and a lack of patience for television that makes you think and reflect. But that's just me. ;)

What are you watching these days? Is anyone enjoying House of Cards without Kevin Spacey? We watched the first episode and that show just isn't the same without him. I probably shouldn't say this, but it really is such a drag he got kicked off. As long as we're getting into political territory, if you're in the States and you haven't voted yet, get to it. ;) And don't forget to tell me what you're watching these days in the comments!

  2. Totally agree! I love it too and definitely people have lost their attention spans for a slow and thought-provoking story!

    1. You're right, Abby, about the pacing! It is definitely slow, but that's the best part, isn't it? It really gives you time to think and consider.
